Footwear Experiments
Personal Project
To get more familiar with footwear construction, I have conducted several resoling experiments.
The first pair I attempted was a pair of Jordan 1.5 The Returns. The Jordan 2 tooling was crumbling from wear, so I replaced it with tooling from the Jordan 1 Cyber Monday. The wear on the upper and the Jordan 2 tooling made for a shallower fit once the Jordan 1 tooling was glued and stitched, which was good learning opportunity moving forward.
The second pair I attempted was creating a Jordan 1/Dunk Ultra hybrid inspired by a prototype pair of shoes worn by Michael Jordan. The softer Lunarlon midsole warped during initial removal, so I decided to cross stitch and spray several coats of plastidip as a workaround. This helped me to learn the different allowances to consider when working with different materials.
The third pair was a poor man’s attempt at the Tom Sachs Mars Yard. I used the upper from a pair of Nike Challengers as the upper and the tooling from a pair of Flyknit FSBs. I then used several coats of plastidip across the toebox to emulate the rubber bumper on the Mars Yard 2.5 and the Air Revaderchi (one of my favorite sneakers of all time).
